Abstract

In the Brazilian Grammar Standard, the subordinate clauses of the compound period have three subdivisions: adjectives, adverbs and nouns. These clauses are characterized by exercising a function in the main clause (respectively, the function of an adjective, adverb, or of a noun). Teaching subordinates is part of the curriculum planning and differentiating them is part of the BNCC planning. This article reports the results of a research project that aims to give students and teachers diagnostic tools to enable them to distinguish between the various types of subordinate noun clauses. On the methodological level, a search was made in syntactic analysis textbooks and Portuguese grammars in order to gather such instruments. The results presented here are intended to (i) make students protagonists of their studies in syntax, and (ii) provide teachers with methodological instruments that facilitate the recognition of the subtypes of noun subordinates.
