Resumen

The foundational discourses of the Brazilian identity display an official utterer and data: everything began in 1500, with the arrival of Portuguese seafarers. The indigenous tradition, in spite of its importance to the constitution of Brazilian culture, tends to be ignored. This article analyzes one of the foundational discourses of the Tupi indigenous groups' identity: Tapirapé, the Tapir way. From the analysis of the How the stars are born myth, from the Suruí Indians, I attempt to discuss how the discursive memory of the Tupi Indians is founded so as to interlink the forest and the sun.
