Abstract

This experience report is the result of offering a webinar on laboratory animals, for graduates in Biological Sciences EAD. During the pandemic, with social isolation, webinars were complementary alternatives in teacher training for students, with great importance in scientific dissemination. The ethical use of animals in scientific research has allowed advances in science, however, even though it is a relevant topic for society, it still generates controversy. Its approach is carried out superficially, mainly with undergraduate students in Biological Sciences. This work sought to bring the experience report of a webinar on science in laboratory animals given to graduates in Biological Sciences EaD of the CEDERJ Consortium. The proposal was to offer a webinar that could spread concepts related to the topic among students, based on the doubts passed in a previous one. The offer of the activity took place as part of the program of the “Cycle of Pedagogical Activities Protagonized by Students (APPA)”, an event that aims to encourage the development of teaching training for students at the CEDERJ/Magé pole, participated in scientific initiation research, monographs and volunteer work offer online workshops. During the activity, it was observed little knowledge of the students about the concepts related to laboratory animals, but they recognized the importance of using these animals for the population, as well as the need to explore the theme in the classroom. At the end of an activity, an evaluation test was passed on to the participants. All evaluators gave positive responses to the event, highlighting the clarification of doubts, interaction with the public and development of an ethical and critical posture. Even though it is a subject little explored by educators, bringing debates on the subject in teacher training contributed to raising awareness of the approach in future classes.
