O ‘BIG BROTHER BRASIL’ COMO PONTO DE PARTIDA PARA A DIVULGAÇÃO CIENTÍFICA E A POPULARIZAÇÃO DA LINGUÍSTICA

‘BIG BROTHER BRAZIL’ as a starting point for science communication and popularization of linguistics

Abstract

This paper is an experience report of the practice of Lingcomm carried out through the Instagram profile @vitorlinguistica. To present, mainly, the technique of disseminating concepts, curiosities, and linguistic analysis through elements of popular culture, scientific dissemination posts, and their results will be illustrated. In addition to the practice of dissemination, the ideas presented are supported by reasons for popularizing Linguistics, based on theoretical and methodological concepts, events that occurred, and interphasic suggestions for the presence of Linguistics in schools. In addition, the use of the Instagram social network as a dissemination platform is also defended, since there is the possibility of exploring three aspects pointed out by Treulieb (2020): reaching a more extensive public, scientific interaction, and backstage of scientists’ everyday lives. In this experience report, posts referring to Big Brother Brasil 22 are presented, designed to be displayed on the @vitorlinguistica profile on Instagram, and which are in line with the discussion of Treulieb (2020). Finally, it is believed that the scientific dissemination of Linguistics, mainly through popular culture, might be beneficial, as it contributes to the scientific literacy of the population.
