Abstract From a clinical case of a eight year-old child, which did not know how to read; however at the second grade of elementary school, and the theories that allow a connection among psychoanalysis, education and linguistics, the purpose of this paper is to discuss the questions that involve the reading learning process with the subjective structure. It is prioritized the paternal function as an operator of such structure, and the possible implications on the decadence of the paternal imago on the association of desire and the law by a subject, and its access to symbolic field, specifically the acquisition of writing. In such case, it is attempted a differentiation among the logical operation of the paternal function, the father as significant, and the father’s social imago incarnated. The privileged theoretical option demands the separation from the evolutionary psychologies and/or the development to understand/explain the steps of the writing acquisition on behalf of the historic conception of the child and infancy, and psychoanalysis ethical that allows re-situate the scholar failure question.
