Resumo

ABSTRACT: The purpose of this research is to approach the Pedro Nava's Memórias, highlighting two aspects: firstly, the literary image of Brazil; secondly, the relation of the work with the historical and literary tradition. These two aspects have been mentioned by some authors as possible differences of the Memórias in relation to the modernist movement of 1922 and it is important to observe that Pedro Nava would consider himself linked to this movement still in the 1980s. Being that so, the goal is to determine in a clearer way, the position of the Memórias in the historical, aesthetic and ideological background of the Brazilian modernism.
